Insulator of the Month - Sapphire Pattern
Reprinted from "Crown Jewels of the Wire", April 2003, inside front cover

This CD 127 embossed W.U.P. (Western Union Pattern) is one of only two reported in sapphire blue. A half dozen are known in cobalt; and even aqua ones are scarce. This specimen, owned by Galen Howard, features dramatic amber swirls mixed with the sapphire blue glass. Ross Baird, who owns the other sapphire, researched the history of this specimen. He reports the insulator was purchased in an antique store in Central Ohio, after it had been dug along the B & O Railroad nearby.
